Lots of People must have searched “flight status.” flightstats.com is the first google result for that term.

China requires domains to be white-listed
December 23rd, 2009In a completely unexpected turn of events (not really), the Chinese government has decided that all domains must be white-listed in order for any comrade to see it. The China Internet Network Information Center has also determined that anyone that wants to purchase a .cn domain name must have a business license. This means that regular citizens can no longer own a personal website. This could end in any of two ways: a sudden surge in business license applications or a lot more .info registrations. We just report it; you decide.
According to Xinhua, the Chinese state run media, these new laws are to protect the people from the ills of pornography.

Google launches it’s own URL shortener
December 14th, 2009Google launched it’s URL shortening page December 14 at goo.gl, under the ccTLD of Greenland. The page is not yet available on it’s own, however it is available via it’s integration into FeedBurner and the Google Toolbar.
The reasoning for launching the page was simple, according to the Google Blog:
“People share a lot of links online. This is particularly true as microblogging services such as Twitter have grown in popularity. If you’re not familiar with them, URL shorteners basically squeeze a long URL into fewer characters to make it easier to share with others. With character limits in tweets, status updates and other modes of short form publishing, a shorter URL leaves more room to say what’s on your mind — and that’s why people use them. ”
Google guarantees their service includes stability, security, and speed. Stability Google’s guarantee that their infrastructure provides near 100% uptime and reliable service. Security in that Google guarantees that each URL will be scanned and checked for malicious content and the user will be warned before being lead to the site. Speed in that Google has guaranteed their service has been tweaked to be the fastest out there.
Mayor of Paris launches .paris support campaign
December 14th, 2009The city of Paris announced June 25, 2008 that they had intentions to apply for .paris domains, and Parisian Mayor Bertrand Delanoe and deputy in charge of innovation Jean-Louis Missika launched their campaign in support of a .paris application.
Reasons cited for the need for a .paris domain extension include that the Paris metropolitan could benefit substantially from having domain names under a .paris TLD. Domains under this TLD would show an obvious belonging to the metropolitan area and identify that they are indeed in the paris area, assisting in the localization of services both for tourists as well as locals. The move to .paris domains would also increase the profile of businesses and services that are associated with the city of Paris.
